How Budapest is rebuilt in 2016

There are quite a few development and renovation projects on their way in the Hungarian capital and many of them are related to well-known buildings and landmarks – here we will give an overview of the most notable changes that will occur in the city this year.

Public transportation and sports

The public transportation of Budapest is constantly changing, but there are a few major projects on their way currently which can have a great effect on the real estate market as well. For example the renovation of metro line 3 is expected to be ready by 2019. But it's even bigger news that the Small Subway may get an extension to the Vigadó Concert Hall to tie tram line 2 into the central system of the city.

The Puskás Ferenc stadium has been in a pretty bad condition for a while, now it's going to be renovated along with the Bozsik and Hidegkúti stadiums. The swimming pool by the "Spike Hall" complex has recently been finished and soon the larger Dagály swimming center will follow. Reconstruction of the Palatinus Bath on Margitsziget will soon begin and the sport hall of the University of Physical Education that burned down in 2015 will be rebuilt as part of the new, 100,000+ m2 campus.

Museums and landmarks

Petőfi Hall will be gone soon and the National Gallery will take its place. Another great project is the House of Hungarian Music which is planned to be built near the Vajdahunyad castle. The Transportation Museum will also be renovated along with the Museum of Applied Arts.

This year the complete renovation of Széll Kálmán Square will be finished and the Eiffel Hall will also be reconstructed and there are plans or the restoration of the Buda Castle as well.
